Why Kapala Cares
Inflation and rising costs made for a difficult 2023 for families in the community. Our team at Kapala Heating & Air Conditioning feel that it’s important to share success and give back in whatever way we can. Kapala Cares is our way of raising awareness and supporting local nonprofits. The goal is to help educate and fundraise for programs and services available in the community.
Each quarter three local nonprofits will vie for the public’s votes. It’s simple, easy, and free to vote for your favorite area nonprofit. Voters will simply select their favorite non-profit, giving that organization a chance to win the grand prize. All three nonprofits featured each quarter will receive a gift from Kapala Heating & Air Conditioning.
The nonprofit with the highest votes will receive $750; second highest will receive $500, and third place will receive $250.

Banbury Cross is proud to offer therapeutic riding services to children and adults with a variety of needs. Therapeutic riding has been found to improve core strength, increase flexibility, and allow participants to experience a bond with a powerful animal, while also increasing independence. Our PATH International certified and experienced instructors work hard to tailor each lesson to the individual student, while also keeping the students over-all goals in mind. Our students have reported back numerous benefits and improvements in other areas of their lives. These benefits include improvements in balance, physical strength, coordination, mobility, self-confidence, self-control, peer interaction, and social skills.
Crank 4 A Cause is always trying to bring awareness to community needs using the power of cycling and fitness. Crank 4 A Cause is a 501(c)-3 registered non-profit organization and is the concept of one person's love for outdoor cycling, running and the desire to promote general fitness and local causes. Since our inception in December of 2019, we have put together seven events to raise funds for our community through the Beaver Dash Bash and the Spring R&R. Each event fundraising for different aspects of our community.
Crank 4 A Cause would like to allocate those funds to go to the new local project we are currently working on of getting a rescue vehicle built for or Lapeer City Police and Fire/Rescue departments to have quicker access to users of the Oakdale Trails in case of an emergency.
Our Mission: Building skills and enriching lives through literacy in Lapeer county and surrounding areas.
Here at the Family Literacy Center, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change. Since our beginnings in 1980, we’ve been driven by the same ideas which we founded our Non-Profit Organization upon: support, empowerment, and progress. We provide adult tutoring, child tutoring, and family programs at no cost to participants. We strive to help people in our community reach their literacy goals.
So far in 2024, 40 of our students have earned their GED with many more in process. Because of our partnership with GST Michigan Works, we provide tutoring services at their offices in Lapeer, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, and Shiawassee Counties. We offer free English as a Second Language tutoring and conversation groups. We also offer free tutoring programs for kids who need extra help, focusing on second and third graders.
